Elizabeth Mort, MD, MPH is Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥. In this role, she oversees a physician leadership forum dedicated to healthcare safety issues and the identification of significant emerging trends. Dr. Mort serves as a primary voice of patient safety and the key liaison between ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ and the healthcare safety community. She helps design services to further enhance quality and patient safety and works closely with our survey organizations on accreditation processes. Dr. Mort is also the Interim Editor-in-Chief of ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ Journal on Patient Safety and Quality which has been a flagship publication for 50 years supporting our mission to enable and affirm the highest standards of healthcare quality and patient safety.

Dr. Mort is a primary care general internist and a nationally recognized expert with broad experience in advancing systems of care to improve the health outcomes across the continuum with expertise in healthcare leadership, quality and safety, and healthcare equity. She was the Senior Vice President of Quality and Safety, Chief Quality Officer at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) for 10 years. Before assuming her CQO role, she served as both Vice President of Quality and Safety and Associate Chief Medical Officer at MGH. Previously, she served as Senior Medical Director at Partner’s Health Care.

Dr. Mort holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Michigan. She received her Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Mort is an accomplished scholar, proud mentor, and committed educator. She is an Associate Professor of both Medicine and Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School, and publishes and speaks on quality, safety, and management topics.
